Sweco Hydroprojekt is expanding its portfolio of international activities in Montenegro

5 April 2019
Sweco Hydroprojekt along with Sweco GmbH has been commissioned for strengthening the climate resilinece in Montenegro.

The assignment is part of the technical cooperation package for the Montenegro Main Roads Reconstruction Project, for which the EBRD approved a sovereign loan of 40 million EUR. The EBRD loan proceeds are to be used to cover the following three sub-projects: Rehabilitation of the Rozaje - Spiljani road section (approx. 20km), Rehabilitation and upgrade of the Tivat - Jaz road section (approx. 16km), Rehabilitation and upgrade of the Danilovgrad - Podgorica road section (approx. 16km).

There is a growing awareness among road infrastructure stakeholders of the impact that climate change is having on road network and understanding that directed action is required to mitigate the adverse impact, as well as make fullest use of the beneficial impact.

The purpose of this assignment is not only to look at the three sub-projects to be implemented and advise on introducing climate resilience elements in project planning and designs, but also to help establish an institutional framework in Montenegro for doing so in all future projects and on all existing road assets, where it may be relevant.
